Terms of Service

Last updated: June 25, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using camera.ui, including its software, website, and cloud services (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you disagree with any part of these Terms, you may not access the Service.

2. Description of the Service

camera.ui is local-first camera and NVR software that runs on your own hardware and provides:

  • Live viewing, management, and monitoring of your cameras
  • Local video processing, detection, and recording
  • Optional remote access and notifications through the camera.ui cloud
  • Integration with smart-home platforms and customization through plugins

3. Software license and open source

camera.ui includes both open-source and proprietary components. Parts of camera.ui are released as open source under the MIT License and are available in our GitHub repositories; your use of those components is governed by their respective license terms. Other parts — including the recording (NVR) engine and the camera.ui cloud services — are proprietary. These Terms govern your use of the proprietary components and the cloud services.

4. Accounts

Some features (such as remote access and subscriptions) require a camera.ui account. You agree to provide accurate information, to keep your credentials secure, and to be responsible for activity that occurs under your account. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.

5. Subscriptions and payment

camera.ui offers free features as well as paid features. Recording (NVR) and related features require a paid subscription. Paid subscriptions are not yet available for purchase; until they launch, only free features and trials are offered.

  • Payments are processed by our payment provider, Stripe. We do not receive or store your full payment-card details.
  • Paid plans are billed in advance on a recurring basis (for example monthly or yearly) and renew automatically until cancelled.
  • You can cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and access to paid features continues until then.
  • Prices and plan details may change; we will give reasonable notice of changes that affect you.
  • Refunds are handled in accordance with your statutory rights and our refund policy. [Refund / EU right-of-withdrawal terms — to be completed with legal counsel.]

6. Beta features

Some features and plans may be offered as beta or early-access. They are provided "as is", may change or be discontinued, and may be less stable than generally available features.

7. User responsibilities

You agree to:

  • Use the Service in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Respect privacy rights and obtain any consents required for video surveillance in your jurisdiction
  • Maintain the security of your system and access credentials
  • Not use the Service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
  • Not attempt to disrupt, abuse, or compromise the Service or its security

8. Third-party integrations

camera.ui integrates with Apple HomeKit, with support for Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Home Assistant planned. Your use of any third-party integration is subject to that third party's terms and privacy policy. We are not responsible for third-party services or content.

9. Intellectual property

camera.ui's name, logos, and other trademarks and intellectual property are owned by their respective owners and may not be used without permission. Open-source components remain available under their respective licenses.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free. This does not limit any warranties that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

12. Your data and security

Because camera.ui runs on your own hardware, you are responsible for:

  • Maintaining appropriate security measures for your system
  • Managing and securing your video data and recordings
  • Backing up your configuration and data
  • Complying with data-protection regulations in your jurisdiction

How we handle the limited data that reaches our cloud is described in our Privacy Policy.

13. Community guidelines

When participating in our community through GitHub, Discord, or other platforms, you agree to:

  • Be respectful and constructive in communications
  • Not post spam or malicious content
  • Follow the community guidelines of each platform
  • Report issues through appropriate channels

14. Modifications to the Service

We may modify or discontinue parts of the Service, with reasonable notice where practicable. We are not liable for any modification, suspension, or discontinuance of features, subject to your rights under any paid subscription and applicable law.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated Terms on this page and revise the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect indicates your acceptance of the updated Terms.

16. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Germany, without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection rights in your country of residence.
